Back in October 2025, we introduced our first-ever Excel Evaporation Time Calculator to help labs estimate nitrogen blowdown evaporation times with greater confidence and clarity. If you missed the original launch, you can read about it here: Organomation Introduces New Evaporation Time Calculator Tool for Labs.
Since then, we’ve gathered feedback from real-world users across environmental, pharma, food & beverage, and forensic labs, and we’ve made meaningful upgrades.
We’re excited to announce Version 2 (V2) of the Organomation Excel Evaporation Calculator. Here’s what’s new.
One of the biggest requests we received after launching V1 was broader solvent compatibility.
V2 now includes:
- Water
- DMF (Dimethylformamide)
- A variety of solvent mixtures
This makes the tool significantly more practical for labs working outside of traditional volatile organic solvents. Whether you're concentrating aqueous environmental samples or working with higher-boiling solvents like DMF, you can now generate more realistic evaporation estimates tailored to your application.
For labs running mixed solvent systems, this added flexibility means fewer assumptions, and more reliable planning.
V2 now includes selectable nitrogen needle gauge options:
- 14 gauge
- 16 gauge
- 19 gauge
This addition allows users to more closely model their specific nitrogen blowdown setup. By incorporating needle gauge into the calculator, labs can align their evaporation estimates with the hardware configuration they plan to use.
For teams that want greater control over airflow variables and system parameters, this added level of customization makes the tool even more practical for real-world planning and evaluation.
Not every user wants to enter 10+ parameters.
V2 now includes:
- A Basic tab for streamlined inputs and fast estimates
- An Advanced tab for users who want deeper customization and greater modeling precision
This dual-structure makes the calculator more adaptable across the buyer journey:
- Early-stage researchers can get quick answers.
- Technical evaluators and engineers can dive deeper into variables.
- Sales conversations can build off the advanced tab without overwhelming new users.
This also keeps the tool aligned with how labs actually evaluate capital equipment — starting broad, then narrowing into detail.
Understanding evaporation time is helpful. Understanding time savings is powerful.
V2 now includes a dedicated time savings section where users can either use a calculated “by hand” evaporation estimate for comparison or input their own current evaporation times for a more personalized benchmark.
This addition shifts the tool from being purely educational to being decision-oriented. Labs can now quantify potential productivity gains, whether that means freeing up analyst time, increasing daily throughput, or reducing bottlenecks before LC-MS analysis.
Evaporation is often treated as a routine step, but in many labs, it’s a hidden bottleneck. With V2, the calculator is no longer just a time estimator. It’s a workflow visibility tool.
It helps labs:
- Model realistic evaporation scenarios
- Compare throughput options
- Understand the impact of parallel sample processing
- Evaluate potential time savings before making equipment decisions
And because it’s Excel-based, it remains accessible, editable, and transparent — no black-box assumptions.
V2 reflects how we approach product development at Organomation: iterative, user-informed, and practical.
The jump from V1 to V2 isn’t cosmetic — it’s about:
- Broader applicability
- Smarter user segmentation (Basic vs. Advanced)
- Clearer ROI modeling
- Greater technical flexibility
And we’re not done yet. If you download V2 and have suggestions, questions, or feature requests, we want to hear them. Tools like this evolve best when they’re shaped by real lab workflows.
If you’ve already used our original calculator, we encourage you to download the updated version and see what’s changed.
If you’re new to it, this is the perfect time to explore how nitrogen blowdown evaporation modeling can bring clarity to your sample prep planning. Because when evaporation becomes predictable, your entire workflow becomes more efficient.
