Case Studies, Environmental, Kuderna-Danish Evaporation
/ David OlivaThe push to develop testing procedures which require less solvent is a noble one from an environmental standpoint. However, there are several applications such as pesticide and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) analysis where an environmental laboratory relies on a parallel evaporator capable of preparing samples with starting volumes greater than 100 mL.
Organomation's full suite of solvent removal equipment helps prepare these samples effectively, in both a safe and environmentally friendly way. Our solvent evaporators are highly efficient, because unlike rotary evaporators, these units prepare several samples in parallel using one heating unit.
The S-EVAP features best-in-class recollection of solvent which is absolutely critical in protecting both the bench chemist and the environment at large. Each of our S-EVAP units provide the option of utilizing either individual solvent collection or central solvent collection glassware. Both methods allow labs to recover up to 97% of starting solvent volume, making it easy to dispose of properly.
We recently visited the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County in Whittier, California who recently added a second S-EVAP to their workflow. The laboratory completes a wide range of testing methods including EPA 8000 series solid waste methods and 600 series wastewater methods. The S-EVAP parallel evaporator allows the chemists to remove excess solvent from up to eight samples at a time.
"The S-EVAP unit can effectively concentrate large volumes of a sample by boiling off solvents at high temperatures. A key point to mention is the central collection flask in the center of the unit that combines all the hazardous waste which can be safely disposed of after use.
Organomation's S-EVAP is a vital piece of equipment to meet the needs of our laboratory at San Jose Creek."
Designed specifically for environmental laboratories at large, Organomation's solvent evaporators are able to increase the efficiency of your workflow, while maintaining the optimal green standard for preserving the world around us.
