Product Information, Sample Concentration Options
/ David OlivaThe N-EVAP nitrogen evaporator, the company’s most popular product line, has been an effective tool for removing excess solvent from samples in virtually every known laboratory specialization. The wide variety of laboratories that have found a use for the N-EVAP is directly connected to the sample concentrator’s flexibility. Due to the instrument being able to process samples of different sizes simultaneously, and the chemist’s ability to control the delivery of nitrogen gas, each sample can be treated uniquely. Although this flexibility can be a major benefit, a chemist looking to dry down a large group of identical samples would benefit from an evaporator which applies uniform heat and nitrogen delivery to an entire batch of samples. The MULTIVAP parallel evaporator was developed to aide chemists charged with processing 48 or more identical samples each day.
While the MULTIVAP was designed with parallel evaporation in mind, that does not mean that the N-EVAP cannot be adjusted to process batches of samples. Some tips for successfully drying down a group of identical samples with the N-EVAP are as follows:
Tip #1: Set all needles valves to the same position
The easiest way to make sure all the valves are even is to fully open them all so that nitrogen flow is uniform to each sample.
Tip #2: Control the flow of nitrogen gas via the flow meter only
Leave the individual valves as is. By controlling the flow using the flow meter only, this ensures that all sample positions are being adjusted equally.
Tip #3: Insert the sample vials and position the needles before turning on the flow of nitrogen gas OR lowering the samples
Make sure the needle valves are all positioned at the same height to ensure consistent evaporation rates between all samples.
Tip #4: Ensure your needles are fully operational through regular cleaning and replacement when necessary
It's recommended that the needles be cleaned between each use to prevent any contamination or build-up, which may affect the needles' performance. For proper needle cleaning instructions, contact the sales team using the form below.
These tips will help the N-EVAP provide uniform concentration. However, depending on the application and throughput demands, a lab might still feel that they would be better suited for a batch evaporator. In an effort to meet the evolving needs of our customers, Organomation offers a generous instrument trade in program for users who have their sample preparation demands change over time.
As noted, the best instrument setup is specific to the work of the laboratory. Organomation’s staff is happy to discuss sample preparation requirements to ensure that chemists are using the best sample concentrator for their needs. Please request a conversation and an Organomation technician would be happy to assist.
