The Main Culprit of Laboratory Downtime: Sample Preparation

Written by David Oliva | January 11, 2024

The November 2023 edition of Lab Manager included an insightful article titled "Looking Beyond Routine Equipment Maintenance." The piece featured some thought-provoking data from a survey sponsored by LC-MS manufacturer, Agilent, named "Key Challenges and Pain Points in the Global Laboratory Market."

The most notable finding was that, with 78% of respondents confirming, sample preparation was the main cause of unplanned downtime in the laboratory. As a manufacturer who exclusively produces equipment used in sample prep, it made me think of how Organomation helps our customers on a daily basis.

Three reasons why Organomation excels in maximizing sample preparation uptime:

1. Rugged sample concentrators
2. Priority customer service, forever
3. Not only easy to operate, but simple to repair

Rugged sample concentrators
Since the company's inception, we have prided ourselves on overbuilding our equipment. This is the most notable in busy, environmental laboratories where evaporation equipment is a sample throughput workhorse, preparing samples seven days a week, across multiple shifts per day. The term workhorse came to mind because several customers have used that term to describe the importance and reliability of their evaporator.

While the survey was likely referring to mass spectrometers and not sample prep equipment, instrument breakdown was the second most popular cause for unplanned downtime. Organomation equipment keeps operating for decades.

Priority customer service, forever
Unlike laboratory equipment manufacturers serving 20 disparate markets with a hundred product offerings, hard-working actual people answer the phone and respond through the live chat feature on our website during business hours. We prioritize providing the best possible care to customers and those interested in learning about nitrogen blowdown.

Regardless of how old your instrument is, our customer support is available forever, at no additional cost. We know how important after-sales service is and aim to provide both quick and accurate troubleshooting, should an issue arise.

Simple to repair (and operate)
Part of the reason for our success in selling sample concentrators globally is because you do not need to speak a specific language, or hold a certain degree to dry down samples. Likewise, our evaporators are some of the easiest to both maintain and repair as necessary.

Organomation is committed to making your sample preparation workflow more efficient. See feedback from our existing customers to see how Organomation has been a trusted partner for laboratories since 1959.
